Beggar - Compelled To Repeat

Emerging from the underground like an acrid swamp creature comes "Compelled To Repeat", the debut from London-based four piece group Beggar, who's turning quite a few heads with their sludgy and massively groovy riffs. Beggar really worship the power of the riff and what really sets this album apart from others, are the massive hooks guitarists A. I. Whitworth and J.W. Leyland lay down throughout these nine tracks.

Their style is reminiscent of acts like Iron Monkey, Acid Bath and Eyehategod, churning out riffs that morph from a laid-back, infectious almost bluesy vibe to an heavy and breakneck intensity coupled with groovy and pummeling rhythms and guttural and anguished vocals that sound as if lead vocalist C.M. Davis is regurgitating pure bile.

With such a strong first effort, Beggar could easily become one of most exciting sludge metal bands England has ever offered.
